Articles on: Using Your Card

Why did my transaction decline?

A declined transaction does not always mean there is a problem with your Halocard. Most declines are caused by failed merchant checks or payment rules outside our control. Below are several common decline reasons and suggested ways to resolve them.

Decline Reasons

Explanation

What you can do

Insufficient balance

The card does not have enough available funds to complete the purchase.

Add funds to your Halocard account, or reduce the purchase amount and try again.

Address verification failed (AVS)

The billing address or ZIP code entered did not match the address on file for the card.

Verify your billing address, re-enter it carefully or try ZIP code 00917 at checkout.

Merchant restrictions

Some merchants restrict specific card types even when your card is valid.

Check the merchant’s accepted card types and try a different merchant or payment method.

Incorrect card details

The card number, expiry date, CVV, or billing ZIP code was entered incorrectly.

Double-check you entered your Halocard details correctly and try again.

Merchant or network issues

Fraud-prevention checks by card networks and banks may flag unusual merchants, locations, or amounts.

Wait several minutes before retrying, avoid rapid retries, or try a different amount or merchant.

If a legitimate purchase continues to decline on your Halocard, check your transaction history for the decline reason and contact support so we can help investigate this for you.
